What are vape coils?

At the heart of every vape device, you'll find a small but mighty component - the coil. Think of it as the engine of your device, that atomises your e-liquid into clouds of vapour. Each coil contains a small piece of wire wrapped around cotton or mesh that heats up your e-liquid, creating the vapour you inhale.

What is coil resistance?

Coil resistance, measured in ohms (Ω), determines how your vape performs. Lower resistance coils (below 1.0Ω) produce more vapour and often deliver richer flavour, while higher resistance coils (above 1.0Ω) provide a more subtle vape that's perfect for new users switching from cigarettes.

Types of replacement coils

MTL (Mouth-to-Lung) vaping - High resistance

Mouth-to-lung aka MTL coils offer a vaping style closer to smoking. This is what characterises them:

• Typically above 1.0Ω resistance (aka high resistance replacement coils)
• Perfect for 50% VG & 50% PG ratio e-liquids and higher PG e-liquids
• Ideal for inhaling into your mouth first, then lungs - just like you would with a cigarette
• Deliver a satisfying throat hit similar to cigarettes
• Use less power and consume less e-liquid, making them more economical
• Work brilliantly with higher nicotine strengths (10-20mg) and nicotine salts

DTL (Direct-to-Lung) vaping - Low resistance

Direct-to-lung aka DTL coils, also known as sub-ohm coils, are perfect if you love big clouds and intense flavour. Here’s what to know about their spec:

• Usually below 1.0Ω resistance (aka low resistance vape coils)
• Best used with high VG e-liquids (70% VG or higher) which are thicker and produce more vapour
• Ideal for direct inhaling into your lungs - similar to taking a deep breath
• Create more vapour and deliver bolder flavours
• Require more power and use more e-liquid than MTL coils
• Work best with lower nicotine strengths (0-6mg) to avoid a harsh throat hit
